BIMoS Day "The Mathematics of Multiple Antenna Communications"

by Prof. Dr. Guiseppe Caire (FU Berlin)

November 19th, 2018 (16:15 - 18:00)

H 2036, TU Berlin Main Building, Straße des 17. Juni 13, 10623 Berlin

Program

16:15 - 17:00

Multiple-Input Multiple Output (MIMO) communications obtained by using multiple antennas at transmitters and receivers has become the backbone of modern wireless communication systems, such as WiFi (IEEE 802.11ac), LTE, and the forthcoming 5th Generation. The propagation channel between antenna arrays can be modeled as a matrix of random coefficients. Transmit and receive techniques hinge critically
on the ability of estimating such matrices, and using such knowledge to compute transmit precoders and receivers, able to exploit the inherent interference of the multiple antennas.

17:15 - 17:45

A surprisingly involved set of mathematical tools have turned out to be very useful for such estimation, precoding, and decoding algorthms. In particular, asymptotic random matrix theory, compressed sensing, and tools from statistical physics, have been widely used to design and analyze efficient and powerful algorithms,  which are now implemented in some form in practical systems. This BIMoS day is dedicated to illuminate the applications of such mathematical tools, in the framework of the recent research conducted at the Communications and Information Theory (CommIT) chair of TU Berlin.
